Bought these about a year ago. Before purchasing these headphones I tried two others including AKG K601s and Denon AH D2000s. I liked these the best. Best, most accurately reproduced sound of these three. Great lows, mids, and highs. Not too much of any one.

I bought a pair of these on sale through Amazon just after Christmas. They were less than 1/3 of their MSRP. I bought them because the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pros I’ve had for about a year had to go in for warranty repair, and I wanted an inexpensive backup pair in the interim.
The sound quality is not awful. These headphones produce a fairly smooth sound. There’s no harshness or undue brightness to the sound. That said, they’re also a bit lifeless. In blues and rock, drums and, especially, cymbals sound flat and two-dimensional. Guitar comes through pretty well, and there is no shortage of bass. Vocals are fair, and there is a decent amount of detail retrieval, but there isn’t wonderful separation among instruments. These are the most bass heavy earphones I’ve heard. (Usually, I listen on AKG 701s or beyerdynamic 770 DTs through a headphone amp at home or on the Super.fi 5 Pros on my Zune 80.) I wouldn’t call them muddy. The highs are just somewhat rolled off, and they don’t produce music with a lot of ear-grabbing impact. In all, the sound was about as good as (or better than) I’d hoped for from a pair of earphones in the price range I paid. I’ll admit that I haven’t heard other IEMs in this price range, so I don’t know whether the competition is better, but it seems difficult to believe that you could do better on sound for under thirty bones or clams or whatever you call them.
As for comfort, I have no problem with these and the medium size earpieces. If people are feeling pain, it’s probably because they’re shoving them too deep into their ear canals.
Where these fall far short of the beyerdynamic name is in build quality. The wires are pretty skimpy, and the monitors don’t feel all that substantial. The wires don’t feel well connected. My pair has failed after a little more than a week of light use on my daily commute on SEPTA. The right earpiece is cutting out, apparently because of a loose wire. By my lights, that’s pretty flimsy build quality. I’m returning them to Amazon for a refund. If the quality were better, I would spend about ¼ of the MSRP on them, but I wouldn’t spend what Amazon is charging now that they’re not on sale (about ½ of the MSRP).
I’d give them about a four on sound and a zero to one on build quality for a total of about two stars.

I think that the earphones are comfortable. They fit very well into my ear. I am able to achieve the necessary seal to get a good bass response. I think that the sound is good in all registers–especially bass. The bass is not boomy, but there is some resonance and I find it enjoyable while listening to jazz. I have not tried them on rock or classical music.
I agree with other reviewers that there are other earphones that are better. The Sennheiser CX-300 are very good earphones for the money. If you wants a really significantly better earphone like a mid-level Shure, Ultimate Ear, Klipsch, Denon and others, you will need to spend more than $100.00. I think it is easily worth spending the extra money for great sounding music, but for a budget minded buyer, these are good earphones.
As a caveat, these are not for listening while exercising vigorously. I would have some concern that they would stay in your ears. I also listen to earphones through a headphone amplifier which usually makes all of the earphones and headphones that I listen to sound richer.

I am reviewing the DT770 250 ohm 2006 version.
A few months ago Amazon offered a great deal on these cans (somewhere in the ballpark of half the price they are currently offered at). At first I was disappointed; they are not good without a lot of power and paired with just my ipod, even at maximum volume they were too quiet, not to mention audibly underpowered, fitting of their ohm rating. However, upon pairing these cans with a cheap Chinese fiio f3 headphone amplifier I am much changed in opinion. Despite the fiio being a very cheap amp ($10 or so), the combination has been marvelous to listen to. While they still need a fair amount of power from the source, they sound much more full, and the bass is properly powered.
Let me start by establishing this point. The bass for these is definitely the selling point. It is strong, full, and ‘healthy’. At the same time, the highs and lows sound good as well though admittedly not as clear or clean-sounding as equivalently-priced open headphones (such as Sennheiser or AKG). Some portable audiophiles might live by open designs, but for me something about closed headphones with good bass just works for my ears, and I much prefer these for hip-hop or rock to my open Grado sr60’s (although I will admit I am simply not a fan of the Grado sound). Furthermore, for a closed headphone these have a very good soundstage. However, because it is closed they still feel naturally a bit more contained, but at the same time more organized as well. I developed a liking for the closed soundstage for jazz because it reminds me of the small jazz club environment (rather than my Sennheisers, which can occasionally feel too big for quartets). Simply, this is both a positive and negative; these sound great with an understandable instrumentation of a smaller to medium number. In summation, I’d definitely prefer a Sennheiser for classical with it’s large instrumentations, but these sound acceptable for virtually all kinds of music as long so long as there aren’t too many different parts that need a spatial sound.
Finally, these headphones are both relatively low-fatigue and very comfortable. In build quality, they are well made, a bit better than my Senns and Grados, but worse than my AKGs. One thing to note is that at first they may seem like they are clamp down a bit hard around the head, however with some wear or a few manual stretches of the metal headband this can be easily rectified.
Overall, I’d give these two stars if you have no amp, 4-5 stars depending on what amp you have. I rounded up because, despite the cheap amp I have paired with these, I am extremely satisfied with the sound.

I have tried earphones by Sony, Etymotic, and Shure and I am stunned by the quality these Beyerdynamic earphones provide. I am using them with a creative Zen W mp3 player. I recommend them highly at this price point.
