These sound far better than my Shure 530s. It makes it hard to enjoy music on cheaper earphones after listening to these. The only downside is they stick out a bit and don’t fit everyone perfectly because of their larger size. They are also very expensive but unlike the Shure 530s (priced about the same as these) you are getting your money’s worth. My only complaint is the mic button should be near the mic. It is down too low and hard to find without fumbling around for it.
Their customer support is also top notch. When I e-mailed them to ask where to get a new set of cables because my puppy had ruined them (totally my fault) they sent out a new pair the same day I e-mailed a copy of my invoice.

Prior to the Westone 3’s, I had a pair of Shure E4C’s, Denon AH-C351, and JVC Marshmallows for in-ear-monitors/ear-canal headphones. The Denon and JVC’s were quite cheap and meant for my wife who only needs them when on a plane, and the E4C’s were my portables for whatever situation where I needed to block external noise and enjoy the music. The E4C’s were known for being anemic in the bass, and I remedied that by turning on the bass boost in my MP3 player (Creative Zen 32GB). The E4C also had a slight bump in the 10Khz region and can be slightly fatiguing. When my E4C’s got fried because of a faulty pair of airline adapters, I got the Westone 3’s after reading all the reviews and discussions online I could find. My taste for speakers and headphones is simply to have them be as neutral as possible–no hype or dip in any of the frequency ranges. The idea is that sound reproduction devices should be invisible and not color the original recordings.
The Westone 3, unfortunately, isn’t for someone like me. They are far from being neutral. The bass in the 100Hz region is boosted about 3~4db, and the treble in the 12Khz~14Khz range is about 3~4db recessed. The highest frequencies is also a bit rolled off because the W3 has a slight limitation in the upper frequency by design (goes up to about 16Khz only). This results in a signature sound that is very warm–in fact too warm on certain materials like jazz or classical. The sizzle of the cymbals, the articulate detail of the double bass, the buzzing blast of the brass section, the upper harmonics of the string section–all of them will be compromised by the overtly warm sound of the Westone 3’s. To put it bluntly, the Westone 3’s makes everything sound a bit muddy and muffled, but quite smooth. When I compare the Westone 3 to my reference quality speakers/headphones (Klein + Hummel O 300D’s, Sennheiser HD555’s, Audio-Technica M-50’s) The Westone 3’s just lacked detail in the higher frequencies, and the bass is too bloated and boomy, lacking tight detail in the bottom end. I guess the good thing is that the Westone 3’s will never be too harsh or sibilant, since it’s so rolled off at the top end–and that means you can listen for a long time without ear fatigue (though the bloated bass might get annoying after a while).
Currently I use a custom EQ setting to make the Westone 3’s more neutral, and it works pretty well, although doing so drains the batter on my MP3 player faster. I might keep looking and see if I can find a different brand/model that doesn’t require any EQ’ing to sound neutral.

I paid $30 for them to use w/ my Iphone 3g and boy, they sound great, you need to lower the volume on your MP3 since these are very loud. I was using the cx300 sennheiser and while they are good, you can’t compare to these, I can hear sounds and instruments from the music that I never heard before, they have very strong bass, you need to make sure to place these all the way in your ear to get the right sound, people that complain about not getting good bass is because they are not placing hem correctly in their ear canal. The cable is a bit heavier and thicker than many other earphones. As a phone headset w/ my I-phone, it works very well. Very good deal at $30.

It took me a couple of months to really warm to the EB’s and I wondered if I had made the right purchase a couple times at first, but gradually I figured out how to fit them best and when and when not to wear them. Also I agree with some of the other reviewers that the bass does seem to have a “breaking in” period, whether imaginary or not that’s how it seemed to me, I reached a point where everything clicked and then I went “holy crap”!
I still have that wow factor 6 months later. I just love the full sound these make, the way the bass fills the soundstage, I think its how the music I tend to play needs to be personally, it gives the music a foundation. I’m using them with the “rhapsody to go” on my sansa so that’s wma at 128k or 164k. I’m not kidding, sometimes its so breathtaking when you have a great track playing and you got the fit just right, that its hard to believe you got a pair of small earbuds in your ears, the bass is going right through you like a big pair of speakers would. Isn’t technology something.
They don’t work that great when you are moving around so much, plus you know you got something stuck in your ear and its a fairly fine balancing act, think that’s a typical response in the reviews section. So these days I mainly use them for dedicated listening to really appreciate the music and have the cheapo koss titaniums when I am working out or on the move.

These headphones deliver solid sound. While they have a great 2 year warrenty, I’ve never had to use one so much. The cable constantly is having issues and I have to get them replaced. Given that I have issues, they couldn’t be any more helpful. I wish I just didn’t have to have these cables replaced every few months.

At a price point of $80 - $90 these were on the “questionably worth it” list. At $30 they are the best earphones I have ever used. If you were to double that price, they would still be #1. The sound cancelling ear-tips actually fit my ears, (unlike other “better” earphones that fall out) and while watching movies on my LG Dare phone they almost sound 5.1ish. I’ve read people complain about the lack of bass, and that is just flat out false. If there is a lack of bass, you need to adjust the settings on your device.

The ear piece which comes with the iPhone is somewhat frustrating. It has a ‘rubberised’ coating and has this annoying knack of getting knotted and caught on anything within the same zip code!
These Ultimate Ear super.fi 4vi earphones provide much improved sound quality as well as a better coating thus lessening the incidence of getting tied up in knots.
There are added features of a selection of bud size and texture to chose from to suit your requirements as well as a control button to pause or skip to the next rack when listening to music or mute or hang up when on a call.
Perhaps a little pricey and if you try to buy them directly from Amazon, which I tried at a cheaper price, they really give you the run-around!!:(
So I ended getting them from one of their other vendors for about $20 more.
Oh well, they were worth waiting for.

I bought these for my son and they stopped working a couple of months in! When I called their so called customer service they said the cables had problems and the replacement for them are on back order. Yet, they continue to sell the Super.fi! It has been over 4 months and I called again and was told they are still not available. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY! Do yourself a favor and buy the cheapies from Walmart, at least they will replace them!!!! THIS COMPANY STINKS!!!!
